Can someone hack your car?

While it's not entirely out of the question for some, for now you can consider yourself safe... except if you are a Nissan Leaf owner, that is.

The Nissan Leaf App (not available in New Zealand) lets users control "non crucial" elements of their vehicle remotely via their smartphone. It is limited to basic functions such as climate control, and reviewing the status of your battery.

Nissan was recently forced to disable the app after a researcher in Australia revealed all he needed to hack into his Friend's Nissan Leaf in the UK, was the vehicle identification number found at the bottom of the windscreen.

It's fair to say, someone at Nissan will be frantically backtracking in order to hold on to their job!
