Mercedes-Benz revealed the world’s first premium ute with not one, but two different concepts. The tough and rugged Powerful Adventurer and the classy and modern Stylish Explorer. The concept was presented this week in Sweden.
The vehicles are meant to be “true Mercedes” with the usual array of design, luxury, driving dynamics and safety.
The Adventurer is expected to be plenty capable even in extreme off-road conditions. Made for the more rugged off-road lover, it even sports a fire extinguisher right on the dashboard to re-enforce how “outdoorsy” it is.
The Explorer designed for more of the urban-dweller and is more about the visual appeal. It has a white metallic paint finish with a brown and white leather interior.
Both models will have a diesel V6 and four-wheel-drive system. It is expected to be able to haul just over a tonne and tow just over 3 tonnes putting it in par with most rivals. Despite being a stylish premium ute, it will still be able to do plenty of work. Like glamping, it’s another addition to the “rough luxury” lifestyle.
The premium utes are expected to be on sale in New Zealand in 2016. There hasn’t been any indication on what the price will be but we can expect it to be just as premium.
